It's official. Andrew W.K. now holds the record for the longest drum session in a retail store in New York City. The party rocker's 24-hour drumathon - which was part of this year's O Music Awards - came to an end Thursday evening at Oakley's flagship store in Times Square.
A rep from Record Setter World Records presented an exhausted W.K. with the official certificate, and explained that they had to add the "in New York City" detail because they discovered someone else had actually hit the skins for more than 100 hours at a retail store in California. Nevertheless, Andrew happily accepted the honor and thanked everyone who helped him get there, including the Roots' Questlove and other drummers who played along with him.
But the world record wasn't the only thing W.K. took home during the day-long event. He was also voted the Must Follow Artist on Twitter. Other O Music Award winners included Jack White in the Analog Genius category and Linkin Park's "Lost in the Echo" for Best Interactive Music Video. Highlights from the event are available now at OMusicAwards.com.
